FOX3 — post-beta maintenance 0.4.3
================================

WINDOWS
-------
Double-click Install_for_Windows.cmd

That's it — a window opens, installs everything, and walks you through setup.
If Windows shows a "Windows protected your PC" box, click "More info" then
"Run anyway" (the beta build isn't code-signed yet).

macOS 14 or later
----------------
Double-click Install_for_macOS.command

• If macOS blocks it ("unidentified developer" / can't check it for malware):
open System Settings > Privacy & Security , scroll to Security, and click
"Open Anyway" next to the Install_for_macOS.command message (it shows for a
short while after the blocked attempt), then authenticate and double-click the
file again. (macOS 14: Control-click the file > Open > Open.) Fastest
on any recent macOS: open the Terminal app, type xattr -d com.apple.quarantine
and a space, drag Install_for_macOS.command into the window, press Return, then
  double-click it.
• If it says you don't have permission to run it (the execute bit can be lost
when a zip is unpacked), open the Terminal app, type bash and a space, then
drag Install_for_macOS.command into the window and press Return.

The installer will:
  • check that Python 3.11+ is available (and tell you how to get it if not)
  • install FOX3 in its own isolated environment
  • download the Chromium browser for scraping (~150 MB, one-time)
  • attempt to create ~/Applications/FOX3.app for Launchpad/Spotlight. If that
launcher cannot be created, the installer prints the exact GUI command/path
fallback instead (the .command may still need you to authorize it the first
time — see the unidentified-developer note above — because of the
    downloaded-file quarantine)
  • open the guided setup wizard automatically — no second terminal needed

Re-running the installer re-installs FOX3 in place — your profile, settings,
and history (kept in your user data folder) survive untouched. Note this is a
RE-install, not an auto-update: to get a NEWER version you must download a
fresh installer zip from the download page. Re-running the SAME installer does
not upgrade you to a new release.

WHAT WILL IT COST TO RUN?
-------------------------
FOX3 calls a paid AI model. Your FIRST run is the most expensive — typically
about $5–$8 when your search is broad — because it reads every matching job
fresh. Later runs are much cheaper, around $0.40 each, since most jobs are
already seen. Built-in spending caps protect you: $5 on the first run, $2 per
run after that, $6 per day, and $20 per month.

WHAT'S IN THIS FOLDER
---------------------
  Install_for_Windows.cmd Windows: double-click this
  Install_for_macOS.command macOS: double-click this
app_files\ everything the installer needs (you can ignore it)

OPTIONAL: SCHEDULED RUNS
-------------------------
Inside app_files\: setup_task_scheduler.ps1 (Windows, needs admin) /
setup_launchd.sh (macOS) — both removable with their -Remove/--remove flag.

UNINSTALLING
------------
FOX3 is installed in its own isolated environment via pipx. To remove the app:

    pipx uninstall jobscout

(That removes the program and the fox3 / fox3-gui commands. On Windows, also
delete the FOX3 shortcut from your Desktop, and remove the scheduled task if you
created one: setup_task_scheduler.ps1 -Remove .)

YOUR DATA SURVIVES an uninstall — on purpose. Your profile, settings, job
database and reports are kept so a reinstall just picks up where you left off.
They live in your user data folder:

  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\JobScout (typically C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\JobScout)
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/JobScout

(If you moved your data to another folder during setup, that custom location is
recorded in a small "location.json" pointer in the folder above.) The installer
prints the EXACT, resolved path at the end of a successful install. To delete
your data permanently, remove that folder by hand AFTER uninstalling.

VERIFY YOUR DOWNLOAD (optional)
--------------------------------
Compare the zip's SHA-256 with the checksum published next to the download link.
